Statement of intent
My magazine name is “Enchant”, chosen due to its connotations off inspiring and empowering others aged 16-25 to target the briefs demographic. Both covers will feature a price tag, date, issue number and barcode to meet the standards of the magazine industry. The layout of both covers will feature a masthead, followed by cover lines to each side of the page so the main feature and focus on my covers is the photography of the cover stars. Issue 1 is going to feature actress Isabella Grey whom is bisexual, representing the LGBTQ+ community and showing others the acceptance of standing out. It will feature bright and bold graphics which stand out from alternative style magazines, just like the cover star does. My second issue will focus on artist Grace Jane who encourages others to explore their identity and express themselves through their style with a fantasy element clear on the cover with edited green eyes and stars across the cover which has connotations of exploring the impossible which the cover star encourages the targeted audience to do. The mise en scene will be appropriate and relate to the style of a style magazine with a polka dot dress shot taken as a medium shot, makeup products and jewellery on the contents pages to represent elements of style which those ages 16-25 may typically use when styling themselves. The contents pages will expand on brand identity by following similar colour themes to the front cover they go with to make it emphasise the cover story and contain the same sans serif font for copy. An online exclusives section will be available on contents pages to entice readers to visit the enchant website for more relatable content. QR codes will be visible as well on both contents and front covers to further encourage website interactivity.
The website for my magazine “Enchant” will feature vibrant images of fashion and other related content to help appeal to a younger and diverse audience. Interactivity will also be included with offers popping up on the page, advertisements and a call to action for a competition to entice viewers to interact more. Most style magazines have a similar structure where the main cover story is situated at the top of the page and multiple advertisements between each different section so I will be following a similar approach when designing my website. I will make sure my website is structured to fit the age demographic of 16-25 by producing relatable stories and call to actions they will be interested in to maintain audiences. A spaced layout between each section will also be apparent and anchorage so readers can understand the pictures and know the journalist who wrote the story. The main cover star from issue 1 will be positioned at the top of my page so when viewers click on my website they can read the article. A time lapsed makeup tutorial video will also be featured on my site. All stories will relate to the style theme with headers including fashion, bags and footwear with some top stories changing colour when hovered over. I want to encourage constant interaction so pop ups will be created and graphic animated gifs will be evident throughout to hook readers and encourage them to return back to my site or read more. An Enchant calendar will also be available to purchase with all the models best looks included plus a 6 months free magazine subscription competition.
A clear visibility of brand identity will be created between both products by choosing a house style. QR codes will be visible on my contents pages and front covers which link to my website so readers can interact with both print and online resources for convergence as well as the website name. My masthead will be repeated throughout both products in the same font and many of the coverlines that are on my contents pages will also appear on my website to provide a connection between both sources. Social media logos and usernames will be visible on my contents and website for further connection.
